We are approaching ILUK App’s launch and in light of International Women’s Day, we could not think of a better opportunity to introduce you to the owner of one of our Salon Partners! Meet Pascale, owner of V&O Salon in the St-Henri hood. She’s a business woman with great insight and a kind soul that we should all aspire to be.
ILUK: What mood do you try to create at V&O?
V&O: A relaxing and calm environment. A place to come alone and relax or with a group of friends to catch up.
ILUK: What is a vegan salon for a lot of people that might not know?
V&O: All products are cruelty-free: not tested on animals, and no animal by-products. For example, mainstream nail polishes use fish scales for the shine. Vegan polishes obviously do not. In addition, there is the non-toxic aspect. All of our products such as skincare, body scrubs, creams, etc., are plant-based and do not contain any parabens, silicones and harsh chemicals.
ILUK: Do vegan nail polishes compromise the quality or durability?
V&O: Vegan polishes are of high quality and do not contain chemicals (formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, toluene, camphor, xylene etc.). The lack of chemicals does not compromise the quality or duration of the polish.
ILUK: What kind of experience do you want your customers to have when visiting your salon?
V&O: We want our clients to feel that they are in a safe and clean environment that does not compromise their health or, if pregnant, the health of the baby. We want them to feel special and that we are offering a service that is not rushed and one that they feel comfortable and relaxed in.
ILUK: What makes you different from other vegan salons in Montreal?
V&O: When we opened approximately 2 years ago, we were the only salon that offered exclusively vegan and non-toxic services and products. To my knowledge, we are the only ones that offer all the services such as manicures, pedicures, sugaring, facials, massages, lash lifts, threading, etc., that are all vegan.
ILUK: What are the top 3 challenges you face as a salon owner?
V&O: Our first challenge is for our clients to understand our prices: although they are very reasonable, some might say are expensive.
Secondly, we would like clients to understand the quality of the products and services. We aim at offering quality products and services and trying to keep pricing reasonable. The products I offer do cost more than the regular products so I need to be able to balance that out.
Finally, social media is huge and remaining relevant is important. It is a challenge to get more followers and more engagement with people on social media.
ILUK: What are the treatments regularly booked at V&O ?
V&O: Services change depending on the season. In the fall and winter, it’s mostly facials and manicures (gel and regular). In the summer, it is a lot of manicures, pedicures, and lots of sugaring. However, whichever the season, manicures (mostly gels) are always regular, as well as sugaring.
ILUK: What, and where, is the best meal you have ever had?
V&O: Montreal has a ton of good vegan restaurants. Some of my favourites are Lola Rosa on Parc, Sushi Momo on St Denis, Dalla Rose on Notre dame in St-Henri, and Le Kitchen. Lov is also great! Oh, and Sumac in St-Henri for their falafels!
ILUK: What is your favorite neighbourhood in Montreal and why?
V&O: I honestly love the Sud-Ouest, especially St-Henri because it has such a community feel to it with a bit of an “edge”. It’s really charming and you’ll get to meet all kinds of people from different walks of life.
Happy International Women’s Day to you all Superwomen!
